05:25pm UPDATE: A fast moving bushfire forced the evacuation of two theme parks on the Gold Coast on Saturday afternoon.

Police conducted a full evacuation of Dreamworld and White Water World as the fire burned dangerously close to both parks the Big Brother compound.

During the height of the fire, twelve crews were are on scene, desperately trying to contain the blaze, which was estimated to be around 4ha in size.
At around 5pm, the fire threat had eased thanks to the quick response from local fire brigades. Backburning operations are scheduled to continue throughout the evening, up until 8pm at least.

The fire broke out shortly after 1.30pm along Foxwell Road and rapidly spread through nearby bushland, fanned by gusty conditions.

Foxwell Road and Dreamworld Parkway were closed in some places.

"The grass fire is located near Foxwell Road, Coomera and was moving towards Dreamworld," a Department of Community Safety spokesperson said.


"Dreamworld was evacuated as a precaution."
At 4.30pm, Dreamworld released a statement confirming the park had been evacuated.
"Due to a bushfire within the vicinity of Dreamworld, the park was evacuated. As the situation currently stands, the park is not under threat," read the Statement.
"With the assistance of the Queensland Fire Department and the local police, we're working together to ensure the safety of guests, staff and animals."
Dreamworld management are currently in consultation with local fire authorities as to whether the fire will affect opening hours on Sunday.
"All guests planning to visit Dreamworld tomorrow should continue to check Dreamworld's Facebook page and Twitter for updates," the Statement encouraged.
The DCS says at this stage, there is no immediate threat to homes but residents will be affected by smoke and are asked to keep their doors and windows closed and if necessary, respiratory medication close by.

Motorists have been urged to avoid the area or should take extra care and drive to conditions if nearby.
