Emergency+ app launches

Emergency services have launched a new smartphone app to help Australians call the right number for help in emergency and non-emergency situations.
The Emergency+ app will encourage people to call the correct number for help in emergency and non-emergency situations – Triple Zero (000) for emergencies, 132 500 for SES flood, storm and cyclone assistance and 131 444 for non-emergency Police Assistance Line. Information on other national numbers – Crime Stoppers, Health Direct and National Relay Service – will also be available on the app.
The app uses existing smartphone GPS functionality to enable callers to provide emergency call-takers with location information, as determined by their smartphone.
The Emergency+ training video is available online on the Fire & Rescue NSW YouTube page:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hThHoRNhEnQ&feature=youtu.be
