Dachshund Tau still missing after he was in a car stolen from the scene of a crash

The dog, a dachshund named Tau, was in the car with his owners Des and Deidre Payne when they stopped to help the injured victims of the crash at Mermaid Waters on Saturday morning.
But their compassion was repaid with callousness when the male driver of one of the vehicles involved in the accident stole the Paynes' Mitsubishi Magna containing Tau.
The car and the seven-year-old dog, which Mr and Mrs Payne have owned since a pup, still have not been found despite an extensive media, Twitter and Facebook campaign.
"We're getting more desperate and worried,'' Mrs Payne told couriermail.com.au today.
"We're just about to start putting posters up around town to try to help us find Tau.
"We're worried sick that he might still be in the car if it's been dumped somewhere.''
Anyone who sees the car or Tau - who is brown with a white chest - should call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
