myPolice - from the Commissioner's Desk Message from the Commissioner

To say it has been a huge week in the Queensland Police Service is an understatement.
It is a testament to the resilience of the organisation that we haven’t lost sight of the core duties of making Queensland safer and more secure.
Many members are coming to terms with job losses, struggling with the implications for them personally and their work units within the proposed new structure.
I want to acknowledge the great work, loyalty and commitment shown by our sworn and unsworn staff.
Hopefully the information provided over the past week has helped members come to terms with why the Service needs to change now, the key issues confronting the organisation and the considerable amount of work undertaken to determine the proposed new structure and models regarding the ways in which we will operate.
There will be no fewer police as a result of this restructure. There will be more police on the street and more close supervision and management at a frontline operational level.
The changes will actively reinforce the principles put in place by the Fitzgerald report all those years ago.
It would be my preference that we did not lose any current member but the fact is we are required to find ways to provide increased value for money for each dollar of taxpayers’ money.
While I regret having to implement any redundancies the proposed restructure will enable the QPS to continue to provide the service that the community and Government expects of us.
